Doris Alberta “Bertie” Turner, Age 79, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
Bertie was born August 21, 1942, in Loogootee to John E. and Mary B. (Kavanaugh) Mattingly. She spent the majority of her life raising her children and being a grandmother. She retired from Polygram Records in 1992, where she was employed at their distribution center located in Indianapolis. She was most happy sitting at her card table piecing together puzzles, working word searches, playing solitaire, and watching “her boys” the Indiana Pacers. She loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than anything.
She is survived by a son Lowell E. “Gene” Baker, Jr.; three daughters, Briana (Steve) West, Tina Showecker, Mary Baker; one brother Timothy (Eleanor) Mattingly of Montgomery; two sisters, Patricia Tow of Fishers and Rita Elliott of Loogootee; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband Charles Turner; her parents; two grandchildren, Jamie and Christian; six brothers, Norbert Mattingly, John Mattingly, Gerald Mattingly, Francis “Frank” Mattingly, James “Pete” Mattingly, and Joe Mattingly; four sisters, Mary Alma Melton, Beatrice Sheets, Dorothy “Jean” Ellis, and Veronica “Bonnie” Tennis.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm with Funeral Service to begin at 2:00 pm, all at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229.
