Dora L. Yates

January 26, 1928 — February 1, 2017

Dora Lee Yates was born to the late Louis and Farrie Mae Shaw in Kevil, Kentucky. She completed her primary and secondary education in the local schools. In Dora's younger years she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she was first married, and from that union gave birth to Beverly and Albert Cousin. She worked various jobs until finding her "calling" at Central State Hospital, where she worked with her three sisters as a nurse assistant for 19 years.

She was eventually baptized in the name of the Father, and served as the First Lady of Goodwill Baptist Church with her late husband of 30 years, Reverend Alvin Yates. Dora was faithful unto Lord, and kept Him in her heart while she was cooking, having phone conversations with her sisters, and caring for anyone in need until she left this life on February 1, 2017 at 12:35 p.m. while at the Alpha Home in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Dora was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Reverend Alvin Yates; her daughter, Beverly Cousin; sisters, Adell and Jean Griffin; and brother Louis Shaw. Surviving to cherish her memory is her son, Albert Cousin; sister, Velda Jimerson; brother, Jimmy Shaw; as well as a multitude of stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
