Dora Frieda John, 91, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on March 20, 2024. She was born on February 6, 1933, in Giessmanndorf, Germany, to parents, Herman and Frieda Hoffman.
Dora was married on July 9, 1955, to Gunter John in Hoheneggelsen West Germany. Dora and Gunter immigrated to the United States settling in Kalamazoo, Michigan on February 15, 1957. The couple later moved to Indianapolis with their three sons. They were married for 63 years when Gunter passed away in 2018. Both Dora and Gunter were very proud to have become naturalized US citizens.
Throughout her years, Dora was actively involved in various volunteer activities. She generously offered her time and support to organizations such as Holy Cross Lutheran Church, The Sharing Place, VA Hospitals, and many other charitable institutions. Her compassionate nature touched the lives of many and left a lasting impact on those she served.
Aside from her philanthropic endeavors, Dora found immense joy in tending to her garden and taking care of her yard. She took great pride in maintaining her outdoor spaces and never hesitated to put in the hard work required to keep them beautiful.
One of the greatest sources of happiness in Dora's life was her grandchildren. She adored them dearly and cherished the moments spent with each one of them. Her love for family extended beyond words and was evident in the warmth and affection she shared with her loved ones.
Dora is survived by her sons, Roger John, Richard John (Jill), and Robert John (Rebecca); and grandchildren, Jaci John, Ryli John, and Reagen Ayette (Levi).
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gunter John; her parents; and her grandson, Robert Gunter John.
Visitation for Dora will be from 10am-12pm on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite) – 9700 Allisonville Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46250, with a funeral service immediately following at 12pm. Burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
