Donna Jean Carie, 77, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully December 30th, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. She was born July 19th, 1945 in Vincennes, to parents Elmer and Doris (Holt) Roach.
Donna graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to complete a cosmetology program.
On October 2, 1965, Donna married James “Jim” Carie. Together, until the end, they spent their rich 57 years of marriage raising their five children, loving their grandchildren and spreading the gospel and hope of Jesus Christ.
Evident by her prayer journals, Donna loved and cared for her family more than anything else in life. Being a mother was her life’s passion. Her face would beam when her children needed her love, support and counsel. Her spirit of hospitality was well known, and she could make Christmas feasts and holidays come alive creating beloved memories.
A wise counselor, she loved the Word of God, studied it diligently and taught what she learned to the church, friends, neighbors and family. She led Bible studies and was an active member in Women’s Aglow. Her favorite hobbies included reading and dancing to her favorite songs. You could find her snuggled up with newspapers, books, shopping lists, and of course the Bible; and she danced up until the end. She loved music of all kinds but she’d always say, “Give me that beat!” She loved gospel, worship songs and oldies but surprised her grandkids when she wanted Black Eyed Peas and Santeria cranked up. She was pure joy to watch and you couldn’t help but want to join in. Her legacy will live on for generations to come.
Donna is survived by her adoring husband Jim Carie; her children: Jamie (Carie) Masopust, Travis Carie, Jason Carie, Nathan Carie and Jennifer Carie and their spouses: Tony Masopust, Tara Carie, Heather Carie and Stacy Carie; her grandchildren: Jordan Masopust, Seth Masopust, Julia (Carie) Thompson, Alyssa (Carie) Wildey, Nicholas Masopust, Ethan Carie, Maegan Carie and Aidan Carie; their spouses Alex Thompson and Trevor Wildey; her great-grandchild Adalynn Wildey and her sister Patricia Sandefer.
Visitation will be Saturday January 14th, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, from 11-1pm. Her funeral will begin at 1pm.
