Donald Joseph Sturtz

September 19, 1952 — August 28, 2018

Indianapolis, IN

Donald Joseph Sturtz, 65, left this world on August 28, 2018, but he will always be in our hearts. He was born in Logansport, IN on September 9th, 1952 to Priscilla Schrenk and named after his father, Donald Schrenk, who passed away before Don was born. He was adopted as a young child by James Leroy Sturtz when James and Priscilla were married. He graduated from Carmel High School in 1970. Don (known affectionately to many as Donny) was an artistic and gifted trim carpenter for many years, working on custom homes alongside his brother, Steve. He was an equally skilled Senior Cad Specialist for Pedcor Design Group in Carmel for the past 13 years, continuing his work with his brother on projects such as Carmel City Center and the Indiana Design Center. “He was a pretty awesome guy”, in the words of his son, Zachary, who loved him deeply. He had many good friends throughout his life and he loved to cook for them, care for his friends’ pets when needed, and help his neighbors. His favorite roles were Dad and Grandpa. He had a sarcastic wit and was able to make his friends and family laugh even during the most troubling times.

Don was preceded in death by his father, James Sturtz, and his mother, Priscilla Hussey Sturtz. He is survived by his son, Zachary James Sturtz, his grandsons, Mason Allread-Sturtz and Xavier Sturtz, his brother, Stephen (Kristin) Sturtz, his step-mother, Patricia Spaulding Sturtz, his step-sister, Susan (Robert) Galyen, his nieces, Kasey, Shelby, and Jody Sturtz , Jennifer (Girish) Nair, and Stephanie (Nick) Metheny, his nephew, Michael (Ashton) Galyen, many great-nieces and nephews, and many, many close friends.

A Celebration of Life open house will be held on Friday, September 14th from 5:30-7:30 pm at Prairie View Golf Club, 7000 Longest Dr., Carmel. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution. Don’s family wishes to express a special thank you to Maple Park Village in Westfield for all the loving and special care provided to Don. Arrangements are entrusted to Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
