Donald H. Young

Donald H. Young of Indianapolis, passed away on December 14, 2017

Don was born December 8, 1928 in Indianapolis, the son of the late Oscar and Gladys Young. Don graduated from Decatur Central High School, where his extracurricular passions included football, baseball and track. After completing his BS degree in Chemistry at Indiana State, he began a military career that would include active service in the Navy during the Korean conflict, and retiring as Commander after 32 years in the Navy Reserve. After active Navy service, Don would begin a work career that would include 13 years in manufacturing management at Kingan’s/Hygrade, and 22 years at Naval Avionics, retiring as Division Director.
Don was devoted to his wife Jackie, and they were married for 65 years until Jackie’s passing in December 2016. He was also a loving and dedicated father and granddad. Don and Jackie were 50+ year members of Ben Davis Christian Church, where Don served as Elder for 30 years and they established close relationships that would last their lifetimes. Don served many years as President and member of the Decatur Central school board, was active in the Lyons Club, and was always involved in his children’s activities including serving as an ISHAA swimming referee. Don was known by his family and friends as a devoted husband, father, and friend, a man of high integrity and work ethic, and for his qualities as leader, motivator, negotiator, and servant to others.

Don is survived by his children: Cindy (John) Webb, Mike (Marcia) and Bruce (Jill); 6 grandchildren (Matt Webb, Adam (Alisha) Webb, Lindsay (Nick) Dezelan, Kelsey (Lance) Worland, Hannah Young, and Rachel Young) and 3 great grandchildren (Alaina Webb, Lillian Worland, and Connor Dezelan).

Funeral services will held on Monday, December 18th, 2017 at noon at Ben Davis Christian Church, 701 S. High School Rd., Indianapolis 46241, with visitation from 10am until the time of the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan – Floral Park.
