Donald E. McKain, 82, of Indianapolis, passed away on July 17, 2019. He was born in Jackson County, Indiana, on January 2, 1937, to the Late Gerald and Eloise (Martin) McKain. Don grew up in and around southern Indiana, and following his move to Indianapolis, graduated from Thomas Carr Howe High School in 1955. He went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1955-1959, where he earned the Good Conduct Medal. Don was passionate about helping youth with chemical and alcohol dependencies; working for the Koala organization for many years. Later in life, Don worked as an Antique Dealer, and was owner operator of Attic’s Rescue Antiques. He was a lifelong Patriot and loved collecting guns and Marine Corps memorabilia.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Keith McKain; and beloved dogs, Heidi and Molly. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 30 years, Barbara (Turner) McKain; children, Brent (Linda) Patterson, Julie Hardig, Michele (William) Arnold, Mark McKain and Angela Terhune; grandchildren, Kaylie, Jacob, Kirsten, and Lauren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, from 10am to 12pm. A Memorial Service will immediately follow visitation at 12pm.
