Donald Edward “Ed” Yates 90, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on September 23, 2022. He was born December 2, 1931, in Indianapolis, IN to the late Lawson Baxter and Evelyn M. (Angel) Yates. Ed served as the Executive Chairman of the United Auto Workers Union prior to his retiring. In 1991, Governor Evan Bayh present him the distinguished Sagamore of the Wabash for his work in reducing accidental infant deaths by providing low-income single mothers with baby beds. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Ed is survived by his brother, Richard Yates, and his four grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Jonah, and Demi. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Sue Yates, his daughters, Tammy Yates and Tracy Yates, his sister, Evelyn Jane Yates and his brothers, Norman Yates, and Thomas Yates. No services are planned at this time, and he will be laid to rest privately at Floral Park Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.
