Donald C. Clyngenpeel, age 82, of Indianapolis, passed away at home on January 27, 2018, after battling several illnesses. He was in the presence of his wife Ruthy and daughter Lyna.
Don was born in Ashland, WI, the son of the late Oscar and Myrtle (Temby) Clyngenpeel. Don had one brother Raymond and three sisters, Patty, Bettemae, and Penny. Don was the last surviving member of his family.
Don and his loving wife Ruthy Mae (Shoulders) Clyngenpeel were married on January 2, 1954, in Mars Hill Christian Church of Christ. They welcomed three treasured daughters, Donetta “Netta” Mullin, Stancy Heddens (Kimber), and Lyna Gunderson (Marc). Four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren joined the family and they adored their Papaw.
Don was an Army veteran who served in Korea from 1961-1962. Don qualified as a sharp shooter and received several letters of commendation. He was honorably discharged as a Sargeant E-5 in November 1962. He also served honorably with the Air Force Reserves as a staff sargeant.
Don worked as a manufacturer’s representative who traveled throughout Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio until he retired in 1980. He also worked at Western Electric.
He was ordained as an Elder at Drexel Gardens Christian Church in the 1990s. He also served as an Elder at Agape` Christian Church where he and Ruthy are members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society in memory of Don.
Calling will be held from 12-2pm on Thursday February 1, 2018, at Flanner Buchanan- Washington Park East. Funeral services immediately following.
