Dolores “Dee” Agnes Bryant

Dolores (Weimer) Bryant, age 90, passed away quietly in her sleep on Tuesday morning, January 12, 2021.   Dolores grew up two blocks south of Garfield Park on Napoleon Street with one sister and five brothers.  As a child, she attended St. Catherine’s Catholic Grade School and then Sacred Heart Catholic High School.   As a teenager, she loved spending her carefree hours ballroom dancing at Arthur Murray and roller skating at the Pennsylvania Avenue Rollerland Roller Rink.  Her life changed forever when she fell in love with a young US Marine named Henry Bryant.  They were married at St. James Catholic Church on June 8, 1957 and started their new life together in a new home in the Eagledale neighborhood on the Indianapolis west-side.  There, as a devout life-long Catholic, she became a charter member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church.  In addition to being the mother of three children, she also was employed at D.A. Lubricant Company as a bookkeeper where she worked for over thirty-five years.  In retirement, Dee and Henry traveled across the country in order to keep connected with family members.  Dee thrived on keeping busy, whether it was a part-time job, collecting ceramic dolls, or making her family’s favorite dishes like her parmesan chicken or macaroni and cheese for numerous family gatherings.  She also was an avid rollerblader for a while, harkening back to her days at Rollerland.

She is survived by her three children: Henry U. Bryant, Jr and his wife, Sherri; by Diane (Bryant) Cole and her husband, Robert; and by Linda (Bryant) Ervin and her husband, Edward.  Also, by five grandchildren: Jennifer (Bryant) Lis, Laura (Bryant) Heller, John Bryant, Matthew Ervin and Paul Ervin, as well as by four great-grandchildren:  Gabriel Lis, August Lis, Elias Lis and Lucy Heller.  She is also survived by her older brother, Leo Weimer, Jr.  Dee was preceded in death by her husband Henry U. Bryant, Sr., her mother, Mary (Mason) Weimer and father, Leo Weimer, Sr. and by her brothers, Basil Weimer, Francis Weimer, Paul Weimer and James Weimer and her sister, Eileen (Weimer) Utley.

There will be a visitation on January 19 at Flanner and Buchanan-Speedway, 2950 North High School Road in Speedway from 9:30 to 10:30, am.  While friends and family are welcome to join family members at Flanner and Buchanan, in recognition of the pandemic, the visitation will also be live streamed at https://youtu.be/zh4Y-UnAPSg.  A funeral mass will follow the visitation at 11:00 am at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 6000 West 34th Street in Indianapolis.  Mrs. Bryant will be entombed at Calvary Cemetery, next to Henry, her husband of 56 years.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American College of Rheumatology.
