Dolly Marie (Allender) Wodtke
Born September 27th, 1929 in Brown County Indiana, Dolly Marie (Allender) Wodtke passed away Monday, 28th, 2017. She was the daughter of Cecil and Ruth (Snyder) Allender.
Her husband of 67 years, Mr. Norman F. Wodtke, who has been with her since they were married December 31st, 1949, resided with her in Plainfield Indiana. She is survived by two sons, one daughter-in-law, and one sister: Charles J. Wodtke, Stephen E. & Carolyn (Lori) Wodtke, all of Avon Indiana, and sister Irene (Schroeder), of Nashville Indiana. Dolly is also survived by five Grandchildren: Dan ( Kelly), Diana (Chris), Heather (J.R.), Jayson (Holly) and Derek (Jamie) and five Great Grandchildren: Hailey, Colton, Charlie, Ruby and Lincoln
Dolly was preceded in her passing by several Brothers and Sisters. They are: Glenn E. (1911-1990), Donnel Oren (1912-1912), Ivan C. (1915-1924), George A. (1918-1994), Mary (Kirts-Brown) (1920-2012), Mabel (Tucker) (1922-2005), Beryl (Deckard) (1925-2017), Robert (Bobby) C. (1932-2011) and R. Leon (1933-1939).
Dolly was a part of a large close family. Early life was remembered both with laughter and tears. Tears are remembered from having to leave behind everything she owned in a burning house. These were overcome with happier times, later, during pre-teen hi jinx’s. One example she shared was of driving her Dad’s car with her closest sisters Irene and Beryl. It took all 3 to drive the car: 1 to steer, one on the brake and gas, and one watching.
Humor and religion are staples of the family. Dolly was a cheerleader and Graduate of 1947 Helmsburg High School. Post-graduation she lived in Indianapolis with her sister and brother in law Mabel and Charles Tucker while she was employed by Herff Jones Jewelries.
It was during this time that she and her husband Norman of 67 years met on a blind date. The rest is history as they say. Dolly worked inside the home raising her sons, and during the mid-60s started working for Schlage Lock until retirement. A member of Saint Michael, Saint Gabriel, and Saint Suzanna Catholic Churches, Dolly was a devoted Christian, Catholic, believer and follower of Jesus Christ. She was deeply loved not only by her family, but by the wonderful caregivers providing the comfort she needed as God planned her Homecoming.
While we all are saddened by her departure, we are buoyed with joy as she again is with parents and siblings who have gone before her, and she is free of the crippling pain endured for so many years. Services will be on Saturday, September 2nd, 2017 from 12:00pm till 2:00 pm followed by interment at the Mausoleum. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in the name of Dolly Wodtke to the Hendricks County Humane Society.
