Diane Sweeney

McCordsville, Indiana – Diane Sweeney, 78, passed away on December 21, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Her bravery, unwavering faith, and love will be forever cherished.

Diane was born on October 7, 1946, in New Castle, Indiana, to parents James B. & Helen (May) Fisher. She graduated from Chrysler High School in New Castle before attending Butler University. Diane first worked at American United Life Insurance. While there, she met her husband, Jerry E. Sweeney. They were married on September 22, 1972, and remained devoted until his passing in 2002. 

Diane was a boisterous woman who was always the center of attention. Her loud voice and contagious laughter were a delight at any party she attended and to the many friends she made. She brought that joy to work with her, staying at Indianapolis Life Insurance Company for over 35 years until her retirement in 2008. After her retirement, she served as the church secretary at Eastlawn Wesleyan Church for several years. 

When not working, Diane and Jerry bowled for many years in various leagues in Indianapolis. She also loved to travel, her favorite place being the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama. She also loved to spend time with a book, while listening to a wide range of music from worship songs to hymnals to Blake Shelton all the way to Queen.

Truly, her passion was her family and her devotion to God. As she felt He was always there for her, she always wanted to be there for her daughter, her grandchildren, and her great-granddaughter. Her presence was a calming influence on their lives and one which will never be replaced.

 She is preceded in death by her parents, James B. Fisher and Helen (May) Fisher, and her husband of 30 years, Jerry E. Sweeney.

 Survivors include her daughter, Katherine A. (Sweeney) Jones (husband, Mark). Her grandsons, Adam B. Jones (wife, Taylor), Justin M. Jones (wife, Natalie), and her great-granddaughter, Georgia Claire Jones.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46229) with services following at 1 p.m. Entombment will take place after services at Washington Park East Cemetery.
