Diane Sue Staggs, 82, of Mooresville, Indiana passed away on October 5, 2018. She was born October 15, 1935 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Lea and Florence Staples.
Diane married the love of her life, James Staggs, Jr., December of 1983. They shared a love of square dancing and country music, it was only fitting they had a square dancing themed wedding. The two built a beautiful life together; building the family she always dreamed of and spending 30 beautiful years of marriage together. Upon their retirements, the two became inseparable, never doing any task alone. They remained deeply in love upon James’s passing in September of 2013. She worked for Krannert Institute where she was an echocardiologist, a career she loved for over 30 years. Diane was a deeply talented artist and crafter. She loved to paint, sculpt, and sew in her “sweatshop”, a large bedroom filled with all the sewing supplies she could ever ask for. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed mystery novels. She and her husband showed horses they raised on their farm and were generally animal lovers at heart. Diane was always rescuing animals in need. She also enjoyed gardening and canning, as well as bird watching. Family remembers her as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. A woman with an amazing sense of humor and love of The Voice, especially rapper Pharrell Williams. She obviously had an eclectic taste of music from George Jones to Bruno Mars, and especially loved the song “Uptown Funk”. How many 82 olds even know that song? She was an amazing woman through and through, who cherished her family more than anything. Her passing leaves behind an emptiness in all those who were lucky enough to meet her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 30 years, James; and son, Bobby Harness. Surviving to carry on her legacy are children, Bret (Lori) Harness, Bill Harness, Brad (Nicole) Staggs, and Diane “Mouse” Andrews; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life, Tuesday, October 9 from 4-6 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Decatur Township. A private interment will take place at Oaklawn Memory Gardens at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on Diane’s behalf to the Morgan County Humane Society, 690 W Mitchell Ave, Martinsville, IN 46151. Envelopes for donations will be available at the funeral home.
