Dennis Earl Maskel

Dennis Earl Maskel of Indianapolis died on January 20, 2021 at the age of 69.

He was born June 6, 1951 in Danville, IL to the late Nevlin “Slim” and Gertrude Maskel.

He grew up in Georgetown, IL.  After graduating from high school in Georgetown, he went on to continue his education at Eastern Illinois University.  While attending EIU, he was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity, where he made many lifetime friends and served as the President of his fraternity.

After his time at EIU, he would go on to begin his career in the insurance industry in Springfield, IL.  He was very passionate about his career and received many accolades for his body of work.  Springfield was also where he would meet his wife of 24 years, Colleen.  They divorced in 2002, but remained close friends throughout the rest of his life.

Denny became very involved in youth soccer during his time in Springfield.  He impacted the lives of many young people through his volunteer work as a coach, referee, and other various roles.  He loved nothing more than the joy he got from watching his two sons, Scott and Troy, play soccer.

Towards his later days, Denny found great happiness in living a simple life.  A former guitar player and musician himself, he loved to listen to albums of his favorite bands and musicians.  He beamed with joy anytime he was talking about his children or grandchildren as well, as he was immensely proud of them.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-laws Scott Maskel & Erin O’Neal Maskel and Troy Maskel & Erin Varvel Maskel; ex-wife Colleen Maskel; grandchildren Brayden, Rylan, Carson, and Cooper Maskel; and was preceded in death by his parents Nevlin and Gertrude Maskel.
