Delores J. Young, 92, passed away February 11, with family by her side. Dee was born in Wausau, Wisconsin and graduated from Wausau High School. Strong and brave, she left home at age 18 to work for the military and traveled alone through Japan. After working for the military, she returned home and reconnected with her high school classmate, John A. Young; they married soon after. The young couple moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. They had five children that she raised as a devoted stay at home mother.
Dee was a volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital and later a bookkeeper for Stable Inn. Dee and her husband loved to travel and would enjoy spending time in Europe most summers. Dee always spent her weekends babysitting her grandchildren and loved being known as the “dancing grandma.” She shared her worldly adventures and stories with her grandchildren.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Selma Jablonski; sister, Janet Hawely; husband, John A. Young; son, Clark A. Young; and daughter, Andee L. Reese. She is survived by her children Tracy (Tom) Pelton, Bradley (Connie) Young, and Meredeth Young; sister, Rosaline McLean; grandchildren, McKenize (Michael) Underwood, Thomas Reese, Katelyn (Cory) Krauss, Riley Pelton, Aidan (Devon) Young, and Logan Weaver; and great-grandson, Hunter.
Private family services will be February 16. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 50 E. 91st Street Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240, or to Simon Cancer Center, 1030 W. Michigan St. Indianapolis, IN 46202.
May the wind be always at your back, Dee.
