Debra Ann Stong

Debra Ann Stong passed away March 29, 2025, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis.  She was born in Des Moines, Iowa December 13, 1956 to Royce and Audrey Stong.

She is survived by her husband Jim Mathews and daughter Moriah Roberts, son-in-law John Roberts, grandchildren Kyran, Levi, Salem and Dexter, Three sisters, Karen Steele, Ovida Estes (Simon Estes), and Sandra Stong-Crabb all of Ankeny, Iowa, and a large, much loved extended family.  

Debra received a bachelor's degree from McPherson College (McPherson, KS) majoring in theater and communication, and a master's degree form Christian Theological Seminary (Indianapolis) She was involved with churches and religion her entire life.  She helped create a theater group in Evansville, IN and directed and acted in many plays. She had a beautiful singing voice as anyone sitting near her in the pews can attest.  One of her favorite sayings was "Live in Love" and those who had the pleasure to know her can attest she did just that.  In later years, the joy of her life became her grandchildren, and she shared many treasured times with them.  Even in her last days mustering her strength to play games, do crafts, attend a recital or wrap presents for a child's birthday.  She will be greatly missed by all whom she loved but there is comfort to know she is now at peace with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A memorial service for Debra will be held at Northview Church of the Brethren, 5555 East 46th St., Indianapolis, on Sunday April 13.  Visitation from 1-2 p.m., service at 2 p.m. with food and refreshments after.
