David W. Allen passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025 in Westfield, Indiana. He was 94 years of age.
Dave was born on March 6, 1931 in Dubuque, Iowa to Leo and Gladys Allen. He was one of five children: Dawn, Richard, Eleanor and Mary. His father, Leo, served as a United States Congressman for 28 years (1932-1960) representing the 16th district of Illinois. Dave was raised in the small town of Galena, Illinois.
In 1951, Dave enlisted in the United States Air Force. He won his wings and commission and was sent to Korea. He flew a tour in a B-26 Light Bomber-Recon Aircraft. Upon returning to the States, he flew two years with the Strategic Air Command during the height of the Cold War with Russia. Upon discharge, Dave completed his college education at the University of Iowa with a degree in Business Administration. While at the university, he met and married Margaret Nelson of Perry, Iowa. That wonderful marriage produced three children: Kelly (Stan), Daniel (Anessa) and Patrick (Becky), along with five grandchildren: Allison, Rachel, Matthew, Krystal and Jonathon, and 2 great grandchildren: Kane and Drayden. The heaven blessed union lasted 65 years until Maggie’s death in 2021.
Dave’s career generated moves to three states; Illinois, Wisconsin and finally, Carmel, Indiana. During his business career, Dave traveled extensively, both nationally and internationally, particularly in England, Germany, and France. Over this span, he was a member of the Masonic Order, Masonic Shrine, American Legion and VFW.
Dave retired in 1998 as a Senior Vice President and Managing Director of a management consultant firm. In 2002, the Governor of Indiana appointed Dave to a four- year term on the State Employment Appeals Commission. He prided himself in always keeping well versed on national, international, political, and military affairs.
Please do not grieve for Dave. He lived a wonderful life and now will be laying next to his beloved Maggie. They will be together for all eternity. God Speed, Lieutenant Allen.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 18 at 12:00 at Flanner Buchanan Oaklawn Memorial Gardens-Good Shepherd Chapel, where family and friends are invited to gather from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with military rites.
