David Oliver Ferris, 65, of Indianapolis passed away December 23, 2018 after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
David was born January 20, 1953 in Beech Grove, IN to Howard and Joan Oftelie Ferris.
He graduated from Northwest High School and received his associate degree from IUPUI. He served his country in the US Air Force. Known as a hard worker with great expectations, he retired after 32 years from General Motors/Allison Transmission. His competitive nature not only allowed him to coach Little League for 15 years, but dominate it. He was a previous member of St. Monica Catholic Church and most recently of St. Simon Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his tall tales, his great sense of humor, but most of all his love and dedication to his family.
He was preceded in death by his father Howard Ferris, brother Mark Ferris, and grandson Jack Oliver Ferris.
David is survived by his loving wife Beth Billingsley Ferris; children Danielle Thomas, Matthew Ferris (Sara), Leslie Montes (Enrique), David Ferris (Christine), Emily Farley (Frank), Adam Ferris (Kathleen), and Aaron Ferris (Melissa); 19 grandchildren: Morgan, Samuel & William Thomas; Haley, Susannah, James & Daniel Ferris; Leila Montes; John & Drew Ferris; Zachary, Avery, Maeve & Hadley Farley; Blake Ferris; Madelyn, Brooklyn, Harper & Presley Ferris; mother Joan Ferris; brother Paul Ferris; sister Laura Ferris Such; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, December 28th from 4 to 8 PM at Flanner Buchanan-Geist, 7855 Cork Rd, Indianapolis. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:30 AM Saturday, December 29th at St. Simon Catholic Church, 8155 Oaklandon Rd, Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Holy Angels Catholic Church Building Fund, 740 W. 28th St, Indianapolis, IN 46208.
