David W. Nord, 62, of Camby, IN passed away at his home on Friday, September 20, 2024. Dave was born January 18, 1962, the son of Dale and Audrey (Keast) Nord and spent his childhood with his brothers and sister on the family farm in Boone County, IL. After graduating from Belvidere High School, he attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, where he was a member of the Delta Omega Nu (DON) Fraternity and met the love of his life, Julie (Lundt) Nord, who he would later marry in 1984 and spend his remaining 40 years with. Having earned his BA from Augustana, he continued his education at Northern Illinois University, where he graduated with a Masters of Public Administration. He would then spend the next 27 years at the Village of Cherry Valley, Illinois, the final 25 of which he served as Village Administrator.
After the City of Dixon, Illinois experienced the worst case of municipal fraud in United States history, Dave was hired and spent the next two and a half years as Dixon’s City Manager, being trusted to reorganize operations, and received a “Special Service Award” from the Illinois City/County Management Association (ILCMA, an organization in which he once served as president) in 2016 in recognition of the achievements during his tenure. He spent the final six years of his long career as the City Administrator of the City of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin before retiring in July, 2024, when he and Julie moved to Indiana to spend more time with their grandchildren.
In addition to being a career public servant, Dave was a father to two sons, Seth and Daniel, and later, a grandfather to Hadley and Tenzyn. His wife and sons will remember him for being a man of faith who loved God, attended church, read the Bible and lived the love of Christ by loving his neighbor as himself throughout his life and career. He also loved music, having owned more than 20 instruments and playing many of them, including his guitars and hammered dulcimer. He ran stairs, competing in races up Chicago’s Willis Tower and John Hancock Center, researched family history, explored and photographed many cities, towns, and villages across the Midwest, sharing his many photos online, watched YouTube videos and acquired an encyclopedic knowledge of trivia which he used at trivia competitions, traveled with his wife, dined at supper clubs with his wife and friends, wore his collection of Aloha shirts, and so much more.
Dave is loved and missed by his wife, Julie, his sons, Seth (Jenna) Nord and Daniel Nord, his sister Diane (Ted) Leisher, brothers Dale (Dee) Nord and Dennis (Lois) Nord, his grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Douglas. He will live on in all of those who experienced his love through his smile, sense of humor and generosity.
