David Mckinley, Sr.

David McKinley, Sr. 73, of Indianapolis, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2019. He was born on June 3, 1946 in Indianapolis to the late Henry McKinley, Sr. and Anna Mae (Banks) McKinley.

David was a quiet man who instilled the value of a hard day’s work into his children and stepchildren. He worked for many years as a custodian with Washington Township Schools, and most recently was still employed with Fed Ex. After working all day, David would often come home to more projects and yardwork, his day was never done. He found comfort in his fish tanks and watching TV and listening to the radio. David loved to barbeque for his family and enjoyed tinkering on cars.   He was a creature of habit who found comfort in a routine; from watching Monday night wrestling on TV to eating lemon cookies at bedtime. David was always known to bring home an animal in need and provide a good and loving home for it.   He also provided a loving, and stable home for his stepchildren, and loved them all as his own. Although David was a quiet, private person, he was very honest and direct with those around him. He will be remembered as a kind man, with a good heart.

David is survived by his daughters; Tammy Miller, Joann Love, Tasha McKinley; step-children, Paul (Lynn) Welches, Frances (John) Hill, Michael (Jessica) Golden; and many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. David is also survived by his siblings, Ann, Michael and Willie. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judith Welches; son, David McKinley, Jr., and brothers, Henry and Al.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 5-7pm at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park. David was a kind hearted man who would help anyone in need, he would ask that memorial contributions to be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
