DavidL. Sparks, 68, passed away April 11, 2016, at home surrounded by lovedones. He was born July 3, 1947 in Decatur, Illinois to the late Earl andHazel Sparks.

Heleaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Sparks; his daughters, Lorie Nelland Tina Sparks-Amestoy, son in laws Tim Nell and Chris Amestoy; siblingsCharles, Shirley, Mary, Phillip, Jim, and Tom; nieces and nephews and hisadoring pups, Pebbles and Angel. He was loved by his family and friends,because he always put others first.

David proudly served as a medic in the United StatesArmy for 27 years. He served 3 tours in Vietnam, where he received aLegion of Merit, Purple Heart and a Bronze Star for valor. His service inthe Army took him to New Jersey, Hawaii, Kentucky, California, Germany, andIndiana, where he retired. David was always active, so after retirementhe went back to work for the government as a civilian for 22 years as asupervisor with the Defense Finance Accounting Services.

Heis preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister and 3 brothers.

MemorialContributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and American LungAssociation.

Gravesideservices with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18th,2016 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, 5063 Camp Butler Road, Springfield, IL62707. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Flanner andBuchanan-Washington Park East.
