David passed away on January 20, 2025. He was born in Putnam County, Indiana on May 2, 1941. David was called many things: Husband, Father, Brother, and "DOC".
David worked for over 30 years at IBM Corporation. Most of the time he called on the Medical Field thus the name "DOC"
Besides working at IBM, David was an entrepreneur invested in North West Manor Nursing Home. He was involved in the first "Charlie and Barney's" franchise in Indiana. He also invested with his brother and three Speedway high school friends, in three "Taco Bell" restaurants. David loved to fish and play golf. David was a member of several golf courses: Speedway Golf Club/Brickyard, Indianapolis Country Club, Trophy Club, and most recently Plum Creek Golf Club. He was a single handicap most of his life and had a couple of holes-in-one. David won the first Schwimmer Open, which was played to honor his parents Bob and Bette Schwimmer.
After golf and his hole-in-ones, David loved and followed the Pacers, Colts, IU, and the Indianapolis 500 Mile race. AJ Foyt was his favorite driver of all time, and he knew him personally. Beyond making people laugh, David Knoll (DOC) made the world a better place. He will be loved and missed by his family and friends.
David was always the first one to help a friend in need. He brought everyone together and had the greatest humor of all. He made people laugh.
His mother Bette wanted the best education for her boys: David, Rich, and Mark. The family moved to Speedway in 1955. David graduated in 1959 and then attended Indiana University. He graduated in 1963 and loved his time as a Theta Chi fraternity member.
David was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Knoll, his parents Bob and Bette Schwimmer, and stepdaughter Tracy Walters (John).
David is survived by his devoted wife and best friend Carol, Daughter Lisa (Todd) Redfern, Jennifer Knoll mother of Lisa Redfern; we appreciate and acknowledge all her help with David. Beloved Grandson Evan and Karley Redfern, Brother Rich (Cindy) Schwimmer (Kara and Kyle), Brother Mark (Sue Ann) Schwimmer (Andy, Jeff, and Mattie), Stepdaughters Vickie Miller (Nate), Rhonda Curran, and Step Grandchildren, Kramer, Konnor, Alexis, Channel and Samantha, along with many Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins.
A private service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2025. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in May 2025. David's family will send notices closer to. Memorial contributions may be made in David's honor to The American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are in the care of Flanner Buchanan-Memorial Park.
