David H. Johnston 1949 – 2025, for over 75 years David was an accomplished man, and his legacy is found in the dash. Carmel Indiana was his home, and his unfortunate passing came on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025. David was born on 10/15/1949, to his late parents Robert and Alice, and is survived by his siblings, Robert (wife Jeanetta) and Elaine” Gretchen” (husband Dan), and Brenda his loving and cherished wife.
In 1966 David graduated from high school while at the same time starting his career in mechanics with Boron Oil Company, followed by his introduction to the overhead crane trade and involvement with U.S. Steel until he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1969 and served his country through 1971. For the next 32 years he built a career around heavy equipment maintenance and operation, gained numerous certifications in the automotive mechanics industry, and became a very accomplished and well-respected salesperson.
David was a master mechanic and could repair most anything… David’s portfolio included employment and involvement with: Boron Oil Company, U.S. Steel, United States Marine Corp’s, Atlantic Richfield, Bruns Auto, Westfield Lincoln Mercury, Dotlich Inc., Tom Roush Lincoln Mercury, Newton Crain, Marathon Refinery and Crossroads Lincoln Mercury.
David enjoyed his Harley, loved time in the pool, was a big history buff and was generous to a fault. David had the gift of hospitality, making friends and visitors always feel welcomed and appreciated as well as part of his family. Endless joy came from time spent with those who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing him.
In addition to his wife Brenda Jane he is survived by stepdaughter, Jennifer L. Reed; Granddaughters, Alexandria J. Bodenhamer and Laila A. Putelis.
Services for David will be held in the Spring of 2025 at Crown Hill National Cemetery.
David is and was just a good old boy, quiet, respectful, loved and will surely be missed and never forgotten!
