David James Mcclean

David James McClean, 68, of Columbus, IN passed away Sunday August 21, 2022 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.  He was born on July 30, 1954, in Lafayette, IN to the late William and Wilma (Wittenkeller) McClean.  He graduated from Frontier High School in 1972, earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Purdue University in 1976, and then a Master of Business Administration from Butler University in 1983.  David was a licensed Professional Engineer in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio.  He was also a lifetime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).

David worked in the civil and forensic engineering industries and his areas of expertise were construction defects, flood/catastrophe, roof damage/defects, and water intrusion.  He joined Donan in 2002 headquartered in Louisville, KY and truly enjoyed his forensic engineering career with the firm and working for the Donan family.

David’s greatest love was his family and he enjoyed living full-time on Grandview Lake.  He cherished the opportunity to travel every year to create special memories with family and friends.  His favorite destinations were Marco Island FL; Nashville TN; St. Thomas/St. John; and Bermuda.  He loved country music and attending live concerts, especially Thomas Rhett and Brett Young.  He also proudly helped manage the McClean Family Farm in Brookston, IN with his older brother.

David is survived by his wife of 40 years, Candice J. (Shideler) McClean whom he married on September 20, 1981; son Brent McClean of Knoxville TN; daughter Jenna (John) Wood of Westfield IN; brother Steven (Mary Beth) McClean of West Lafayette IN, nephew Derek (Michelle) McClean of Littleton CO; niece Shauna McClean of Lafayette IN and 2 great nephews Mason and Marcus.  He was preceded in death by his father, William McClean; mother, Wilma McClean; and sister Sandra McClean.

A private family service is being planned.  Memorial visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Flanner Buchanan – Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters), 4180 Westfield Road, Westfield.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hematology Research at Mayo Clinic Rochester or to the International Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation (IWMF).  To view David’s video tribute or send a message of condolence to the McClean family, please visit www.flannerbuchanan.com.
