David Hartman Hayes passed away on October 28, 2022. He was born on July 18, 1953, in Indianapolis to his parents, Dennis and Dorothy Hayes.
David was a member of the United States Army in active duty for 12 years and in the reserves until he eventually retired. After his time in the Army, he began his law enforcement career as a Police Officer at the Capitol Building, as well as a Police Officer at Marion University. After that, he became a member of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, where he eventually retired in 2016.
Along with being a member of law enforcement, David had an appreciation for firearms. He would professionally build and restore firearms as a hobby. He was also a lifelong member of the NRA, as well as an outstanding marksman.
David will be greatly missed by his surviving family members, his sisters Denise Calpin and Hayley (Jeff) McGath, as well as his nephew, Justin McGath, and niece Kelsey Seiler.
David is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Howard J. Sams.
A memorial visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 East Washington Street Indianapolis, on Thursday, November 3rd, from 2pm to 4pm, with a memorial service beginning at 4pm.
He will be laid to rest at Marion National Cemetery at a later date.
