David “Dave” W. Hockett, 69 of Camby, passed away on March 9, 2018.
Dave was born on December 2, 1948 in Indianapolis, to the late Ralph and Virginia Hockett. He graduated from Greenfield High School and honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a long-time member of Mt. Gilead in Mooresville where he served in the Kairos Prison Ministry, and was known as “Hash Man” by his friends in his men’s group. Dave was a chef and was known for his world-famous ribs. He was a huge fan of IU, the Colts, and the Pacers and always believed they would pull out a win. Dave was a family man, he took pride in being a great husband, father, and papaw. He was kind and caring, he would do anything he could to help someone else, and will always be remember for his warm and fun-loving personality.
He leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Margaret “Margie” Hockett; his son, Matthew Hockett; daughters, Rebekah and Robin Ward; grandchildren, Brittany, Connor, Kaydence, and Knox; sister, Linda Meyer; brother, Chet Hockett; his beloved canine companion, Sully; and the Mt. Gilead Church family.
A visitation will take place from 11:00am-2:00pm on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, and a funeral service will follow at 2:00pm. He will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dave’s honor may be made to the Kairos of Indiana, Kairos of Indiana, PO Box 681515, Indianapolis, Indiana 46268-1515.
