Daryl Onzell Buford was born on May 19, 1954, in Indianapolis, IN to Carl and Audrey (née Hoskins) Buford. Having been raised in a Christian family, Daryl accepted Christ as a young child at Trinity Christian Methodist Episcopal Church (Indianapolis) under the pastorate of Rev. James L. Cummings. He was active in church from that time, serving first as an Altar Boy and much later as a member of the Security Ministry Team under the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. O’Neal Shyne, Jr. Daryl absolutely loved and adored Trinity CME and his church family. He actively attended services until his health declined.

Daryl was initially educated in the Indianapolis Public Schools school district attending School #86 in Butler-Tarkington. He later graduated from North Central High School in Washington Township (Indianapolis) in 1972.

Following high school, Daryl went to work at General Motors, Inc. serving in several capacities before retiring after 30 years. Also, during this time, Daryl was very active in and served as an Alternate Committeeman for United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 23 in Indianapolis.

Daryl enjoyed all sorts of activities in his free time with friends and family. Swimming was one of his favorite activities often leading to him being found at the pool on the roof of City View on Meridian when he was not in his apartment. Daryl also loved listening to jazz music and maintained an extensive record collection with albums from the 70s and beyond. Other passions included playing chess, owning, and riding motorcycles, and owning and driving Corvettes.

Daryl lived a full life and never seemed to meet a stranger. He could strike up and maintain a conversation with anyone about a number of topics and was always viewed as helpful by his neighbors.
