Darrell Eugene Schell, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on March 15, 2025, at the age of 62. Darrell was a simple man whose life was full of love, laughter, and the joy of being surrounded by family and friends.
Darrell was known for his unwavering work ethic and his ability to master any task. A true jack of all trades, Darrell owned his own concrete company for many years, building a reputation for quality and dedication. In recent years, he worked as a driver for Dugman Enterprises, driving a dump truck with the same care and commitment that defined his entire career.
Outside of work, he was an avid fan of NASCAR and IndyCar, never missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite drivers, and he was always the life of any Indy 500 party. He also had a love for fishing, often taking quiet moments to enjoy the peace of the water.
Darrell had a creative side that led him to tinker on countless projects. Even though sometimes others couldn’t always see his vision, he always had a clear sense of the potential his projects held. Darrell could often be found with a beer in hand, his favorite pair of blue jeans on, and Rock ‘n’ Roll or Country music playing in the background.
Known for his infectious joy, sense of humor, and overall zest for life, Darrell’s presence could light up any room. His laid-back attitude and warmth made every moment with him memorable, and no one could forget the laughter he brought to every gathering.
Above all, Darrell cherished his family. His love for his children, grandchildren, and extended family was immeasurable. He took great pride in his role as a son, father, brother, and grandfather, and his family will forever carry the memories of his love, laughter, and devotion. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Darrell is survived by his loving mother, Nellie Schell; his beloved children, Dustin (Crystal) Schell, Darren (Arrica) Schell, and Tiffany (Mark) Rand; grandchildren, Hannah, Hayden, Dayton, Gabriella, Raegan, and Colt; his brothers, Kevin (Diane) Schell and Steven Schell; and several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends who will miss his infectious spirit and unshakable love for life.
Darrell is preceded in death by his father, Otis Schell.
