Darlene S. Clidinst, 85, of Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 9:20 p.m. EST at Wellbrooke of Avon in Indianapolis following a long battle of cumulative difficulties including heart and kidney dysfunction, multiple myeloma, diabetes, and dementia.
Darlene was born May 28, 1939, in the farming community of Medaryville, Indiana to parents Otto and Mildred (Schultz) Spenner.
She married Robert Clidinst, Jr. in September 1957 and had three children: fraternal twins Robert Clidinst, III, and David Clidinst, and Tanya Clidinst. Darlene has one grandchild: Robert Clidinst IV of Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Darlene was a fiberglass expert working with her husband producing model slot car racing bodies. These models went on to become some of the finest reproductions and can still be seen on the internet in 2025. After divorcing in 1970, Darlene was strategic in establishing the private aircraft insurance market. She owned and operated the Aircraft Insurance Specialists agency in Indianapolis for over 55 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed flowers, gardening, and fishing.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Charlotte (Spenner) Cords, and niece Sharon (Cords) Lee. Besides her children and grandson, Darlene leaves behind nephew Jerry Cords, niece Rochelle (Cords) Gerulski, and many grand and great-grand nephews and nieces.
Darlene was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church at Eagle Creek. A graveside service will begin at noon Friday, February 7, 2025, at West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.
