D. Jane Nix

D. Jane Nix, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family’s love, January 27^th, 2024. She was born in Indianapolis August 7^th, 1937, to parents Paul and Dorothy Irene (Frank) Lineback. 

Jane graduated from Broad Ripple high school. She continued her education at Butler University, where she earned her bachelor's degree and master’s degree. 

During college, Jane met the love of her life, James “Jim” Nix. After a short engagement, they were married, sharing 65 wonderful years together. 

She and Jim were loyal members of Old Bethel United Methodist Church for over 50 years. 

Jane taught English at Warren Central for many years before retiring. After retiring, she and Jim stayed busy, owning and operating a Dairy Queen, serving ice cream to Indy’s eastside. 

Jane was also a tireless volunteer for Community East, Old Bethel Food Pantry, and Pleasant Run Elementary School. 

Jane was a selfless, loving lady. She had a soft spot for children and animals, and adored spending time with her family. She and Jim enjoyed traveling, especially to sunny Boca Raton, where they would winter every year. Jane was a talented golfer, participating in several leagues. She became quite the seamstress, sewing fun outfits for her grandchildren. In her free time, she was an avid reader, and loved to kick back and “loaf”. 

Jane is survived by her husband, Jim; her children Laura (Jack) Atkins, and Stacia (Bob) McKinney; grandchildren Amy (Sergio) Felipe, Alexis (David) Miller, Gabrielle Atkins, Hailey Atkins, , Kaija Atkins, Matthew (Heather) McKinney, Joshua (Lauren Klei) McKinney, and Jeremy McKinney; great-grandchildren Christian, Jacey, Maya, and Valen. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, and brother Paul Lineback Jr. 

Visitation for Jane will be at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, Thursday February 1^st, 4-6pm. Her funeral will begin at 6pm. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East.
