Cynthia L. Lewis

Cynthia Louise Lewis, of Indianapolis, IN was born April 23, 1943, to Roy and Louise Stebbing. 

She graduated from Broad Ripple High School in 1961 and Hanover College in 1965. At Hanover, she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority.

After graduation, she worked as a copy editor at the Allen Smith Company for nine years, then worked for the Legislative Services Agency as an editor for five years. 

She married Robert Chase Lewis in 1975 and they welcomed their son, Robert PC Lewis, in 1979. 

She was proud to be a member of the Christamore Aid Society, where she served as Treasurer and advisor on the Book and Author Luncheon Committee. She was also a Docent at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and member of the Methodist Hospital Task Core.

Cynthia and Bob were members of Meridian Street United Methodist Church. Cynthia was active in The United Methodist Women and enjoyed helping to organize the Love ’n Bloom Flower Sale and the Pumpkins to Poinsettias Fashion Show and Luncheon. She was a member of the Church’s Administrative Board, Church and Society Committee, Co-Chair of the Church Council, and a Board member of Fletcher Place Community Center. 

Cynthia became a member of the church staff in 1989. She loved her job in church communications- working on the Meridian Messenger newsletter, editing Bulletins, and acting as a news conduit for the congregation for 20 years. She retired in 2009. 

Cynthia loved spending time with her family and her cats, sewing and needlepoint, reading mysteries, and laughing at a good story. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Louise Stebbing and her beloved husband, Robert C. Lewis. 

Cynthia is survived by and will lovingly be remembered by her son and his partner, Robert & Adriane, her granddaughter Ella Louise, Bob’s daughter Amanda, and Amanda’s four sons, Owen, Rhys, Madoc, and Parker.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Tuesday, May 7, from 10 am to 11 am, with a Memorial Service at 11 am, at Meridian Street United Methodist Church, 5500 N Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208.
