Crystine Irene Turnbough, 71, died peacefully in her sleep on May 23, 2024, following a year-long fight with cancer. Crys was born on March 25, 1953, in Indianapolis, Indiana to James and Avis Armstrong. She grew up in Clermont and graduated from Ben Davis High School. After graduation, she settled permanently in Indianapolis and married Tom Turnbough in 1982.
She first worked at Pepsi Bottling Company in Indianapolis. She left Pepsi in 1972 and moved to Inland Container, later Inland Paperboard and Packaging. Crys worked there in many roles, retiring as Credit Supervisor in 2004. After that, she joined the young family company Turnbough Construction, where she worked as CFO until her medical retirement in early 2024.
Crys loved her family deeply, and loved spending every holiday with them, especially Christmas. She was an avid crocheter and love to go yarn-shopping with her daughter-in-law, Karen. She was a voracious reader, going through at least 1-2 books a week, a passion she shared with her friend Sharon, whom she would often swap books with. Her favorite author was Stephen King.
Crys is survived by her loving husband, Tom, and son, Matthew (Karen) of Indianapolis; her sisters Nancy (Jack) Finchum, of League City, Texas and Judith Spell of Bargersville, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents and stepparents, James (Mary) Armstrong and Avis (Bill) Telscher.
A memorial gathering will take place Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 11am to 2pm at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway, 2950 North High School Road, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46224. A spread of her favorite snacks and pastries will be provided and a sharing of memories will take place at 2pm.
She always loved flowers, which would be welcomed, but the family has requested that an enduring gift can be made in her name to The Vera Bradley Foundation at 12420 Stonebridge Road, Roanoke, IN or The American Cancer Society at 5635 W 96th St Ste 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278
