Coula Eleftheri, 81, of Carmel, went home to be with her Lord June 5, 2022. She was born in Limassol, Cyprus to Andreas and Efrosini Christoforou Ioannou. She migrated to Gary, IN in 1962 and married Nicholas Eleftheri shortly thereafter. They raised a family and operated a family grocery store together for nearly 30 years. She loved her family as she loved her church, serving as a Greek School teacher, singing in the choir, and volunteering her time. Coula was known for her classic persona, hospitality, entertaining and love of cooking and baking. No one will ever forget her “koulourakia”.
Survivors include her sons, Lawrence N. Eleftheri and Anthony (Jill) Eleftheri, grandchildren, Nicholas, Christine, Alexander, Jonathan, Nicholas, and Victoria, sister, Georgia Samis, and dozens of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral or Sts. Constantine and Helen Orthodox Cathedral.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm EDT at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3500 W 106th St. Carmel, IN 46032, with Trisagion beginning at 7pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30am CDT at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St, Merrillville, IN 46410.
