Cortland E. Meyer

Cortland Eugene Meyer, 88, of Indianapolis, IN peacefully passed away while surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

He was born May 9, 1936 to Hugh and Angeline Meyer.

Cortland grew up on the east side of Indianapolis and graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1954 before attending Purdue University and serving in the US Air Force Reserves.

He had several jobs including working at Carson Manufacturing, Stewart-Warner Laboratory, Cincinnati Time Recorder Co., and ATA Airlines.

He loved to tell everyone about his 18 years’ experience as a deputy sheriff for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

Cortland was a member of Greenfield Church of Christ and Millersville Lodge #126.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Peggy, and son Darrell Meyer.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sue; children Elyce Powlen, Leslie (Teisha) Meyer; stepchildren Michael (Stacey) Elich, and John Elich along with 9 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Memorial Park, 9350 E Washington St, Indianapolis, IN on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 11:00am to 1:00pm with funeral and burial to immediately follow.

There will be a Masonic Memorial Service at 12:30pm.
