Constance “Connie” Ann (collins) Matas, of Thorntown, IN, was born on August 25, 1948 to George and Lorrie (Evelyn) Collins. She entered God’s Kingdom of Heaven on January 5th, 2021.

Connie was the oldest of two children, growing up in Oaklandon, IN. She spent her youth enjoying the outdoors. Connie loved water skiing on lake Wawasee during the summer and snow skiing in Michigan during the winter. She was a member of the Oaklandon Christian Church and was baptized. She graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1966 and went on to earn an associate degree in business.
Connie had an amazing gift of connecting and relating to people. She became a model at a young age doing mainly print work and then working in communications for the top radio stations, WIBC/WNAP in Indianapolis. She moved into the hospitality business becoming a suite director at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway while also serving as a travel club trip director for Club USA.
These experiences launched her into a successful sales career in real estate, including apartment leasing, assisted living community leadership, and new home construction with several reputable builders in Indianapolis, including Davis Homes, M/I Homes and Hansen and Horn.
Connie’s true passion was her family. She was a proud mother of three children, grandmother of 5, and a great-grandmother of 1. She married the love of her life, David Matas, on October 18th, 1986. She then gained three more children and subsequently 5 more grandchildren. They were married for 34 years.
She spent most of her retirement years caring for her youngest grandchildren. She loved taking her family to South Carolina which became a tradition spanning over 15 years. At home she enjoyed making family dinners, decorating for holidays, walking with her grandchildren at Coxhall Gardens and watching football games with her husband David.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, along with her husband David.
She is survived by her brother Richard (Gail) Collins, her children, Robin (Kevin) DeTrude, Thomas Janes II, and Blythe (Zach) Logan; stepchildren Greg (Krista) Matas, Richard (Elizabeth) Matas, and Stephanie (Justin) Matas.
