Collin Edward Shrum, 42, passed away on August 26, 2018 in Tijuana, MX where he was currently residing. He was born on December 21, 1975 in Beech Grove, IN to Kurt D. and Melanie (Ford) Shrum. Collin was a graduate of Warren Central High School and Indiana University. He taught Spanish and ESL and ENL (English as a Second Language) courses at Warren Central, Southport and Perry Meridian High Schools. Collin was also a tutor for Washington Township Schools and a wrestling coach at Southport High School. Collin was a longtime resident of Irvington and was well-known for his backyard barbeques. Although he loved the Irvington community, he was most content traveling the world and immersing himself in other cultures. Collin spent time in Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico where he enjoyed teaching children and playing soccer. He is survived by his parents; brother, Cory Shrum; sister, Kelly Shrum; nieces and nephews, Arianna Shrum, Scott Rennier II, Cameron & Evan Shrum. Collin is also survived by his aunt, Monica Bennett; and uncle, Brian Bennett; great-aunt, Linda Black; great-uncle, Dave Roark; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kurt S. Shrum.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Collin’s life on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 6-8pm at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Warren Central Foreign Language Department, 9500 East 16th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229.
