Cody Joe Shoffner

Cody Joe Shoffner, loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away unexpectedly on July 10, 2021 at the age of 26 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. He was born on May 20, 1995 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky to his mother Melody McClure and his late father Garnett Shoffner. Throughout his formative years, Cody attended Washington Township Schools in Indianapolis where he played basketball and was an honor student. He excelled in writing and often authored stories featuring musings and anecdotes about his family. He was skilled in carpentry and took courses in welding. Following high school, he eventually relocated to Kentucky where he was a jack-of-all-trades doing everything from creating Ford F-150 bumpers to constructing custom cabinets. Most recently, he was landscaper and he often showed off his tan lines joking that he finally achieved a farmer’s tan. He was fiercely protective and devoted to his family and he loved nothing more than spending long weekends and holidays with them. He frequently called or texted plans for the next get-together and often requested some of his favorite family recipes. His nieces and nephews adored their “Uncle Cody” and they were drawn to his witty humor and youthful energy.

Cody is survived by his mother, Melody McClure; stepfather Bill McClure; stepmothers Sharon Shoffner and Leona Shoffner Knight; siblings Shauna (Brent) Keith, Ticia (Mike) Baker, Robin Shoffner, Amber (Rich) Amato-Paladino, Dale (Debbie) Shoffner, Eddie Shoffner, and Jason (Su) Lawson; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Garnett Shoffner; his brother Roger Lane Shoffner; paternal grandparents Chester and Amy Shoffner and maternal grandparents Joe and Opal Wright.

Visitation for Cody will be Friday July 16^th, from 11am-2pm at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East. His funeral will begin at 2pm. Cody will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
