Spud Kincade was born toLawrence Kincade and Monzell (England) Kincade on December 29, 1922 on thebanks of the Wabash River at the foot of the Old Brownstreet Bridge in WestLafayette, IN. His father was attendingPurdue University at that time.
In 1924 the family movedto the small hamlet of Hedrick, Warren County, IN. Spud started to school inHedrick in September of 1929. In March1930 the family moved to a farm southwest of Hedrick where they remained untilSpud graduated Grade School. There wereonly two students in Spud’s 8th Grade Class and he graduated numberone. All eight grades were taught in theone room school house which had no running water and the toilets wereoutside. Spud entered high school inWest Lebanon, Warren County, IN in August 1937 and he graduated in April 1941.
Spud and Barb datedthroughout high school. When theymarried there were two other couples in their class who married. Spud andBarbara (Watkins) Kincade were married on October 17, 1943 at Barb’s parent’shome. The war was on at the time and almost everything was rationed. Their honeymoon was spent in beautifuldowntown Spencer, IN in Mrs. Crowe’s boarding house. The house is now aretirement home for World War II veterans.
This union produced twochildren, Raymond of Edmond, OK and Louann, who is deceased. Raymond spent over 22 years in U.S. ArmyMilitary Intelligence and retired in October 1990. He is now an independent insurance adjusterand private investigator.
Spud retired on February25, 1995 after working as an auto parts salesman for 46 years, six months andone day. He began working as a salesman on August 23, 1948 in Danville, ILwhere he spent 13 years with E.B. Collins Company. He then spent 23 years as a salesman and zonemanager of six stores in Indianapolis, two in Terra Haute, one in Greensburgand three in Evansville, IN. At the timeof his retirement he was working for Piston Service Company of Indianapolis.
Visitationwill be on Sunday, March 19, 2017 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Post Road Christian Church,1112 N. Post Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46219. Services will be at thechurch on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 10:00 am. Burial will be 3:00 pm Monday in West Lebanon Cemetery in West Lebanon,IN.
