Clara Barker, 94, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, November 5, 2021. She was born in Bremen, Germany on October 21, 1927. During WWII she met and married the love of her life, a kind and generous American Soldier named Charles Edward Barker. Charles and Clara made a home for themselves in the Midwest; and they raised their large family. Clara was a loving and devoted wife and mother. As part of the ‘Greatest Generation’ she was also a very hard worker, retiring from Empro Manufacturing in 1992 after 24 years of service. Following her retirement, she and Charles traveled the country and shared many adventures together before his death in 2014. They were married 66 years. Clara was very active in her garden, was an amazing cook and had a beautiful gift to make every person she met feel like the most important person in her life.
Clara is survived by her children, Barbara Jo Chapple, Alane (Dave) Biggs, Charlie Barker, Bill (Robin Stephenson) Barker and Jerry (Susan) Barker; stepson, Charles E. “Eddie” (Edna) Barker; 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and former daughter-in-law, Melinda Barker. She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband; young son, Darrell Barker; son-in-law, Bob Chapple; daughter-in-law, Pat Barker; and all of her siblings.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 from 11am – 1pm at Flanner Buchanan – Geist with a funeral service immediately following. Clara will be laid to rest with her husband in Oaklandon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given the American Heart Association.
