Charlotte H. Botkin

August 17, 1929 — February 6, 2023

Carmel, IN

Charlotte H. (Thompson) Botkin, 93, passed away on February 6, 2023.

She was born in 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Maurice and Grace Bush.

She attended Tech High School.

Charlotte married John Thompson in 1948 when she was eighteen years old. They

had three children: Curt, Becky and Beth. They shared a loving and full life for 29 years until Johnny’s untimely death.

The Heavens aligned and Charlotte met her second husband, her beloved Joseph Botkin. They were married in January of 1979 for 41 years. He was her constant North Star and eventual caregiver until his death in spring of 2020.

She always felt so very blessed and lucky to have had two great love stories.

Her family was everything to her, and wherever she lived, she made it home. She was the epitome of a dedicated and loving mother.

Her children usually had a warm pot pie in the oven waiting when they walked home from school for lunch, and one of her favorite things to do as a young mother was to take her children downtown on the city bus to see the holiday lights and animated Christmas windows of the L. S. Ayres Department store.

She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca (Thompson) Dotlich (husband Steven) and Beth Ann (Thompson) McCartney (husband Dennis). She was preceded in death by her son, Curtis Thompson, who died in 1974.

She leaves behind two beloved sons-in-law: Steven Dotlich and Dennis McCartney, along with her stepson Mark Botkin (wife Kathy).

She was the loving grandmother to Chad Dotlich, Lara Anderson (husband Zachery), and John Gray, along with her great grandchildren, all of whom she adored.

A private graveside service will be held at Washington Park East Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside Johnny, Joseph, and her son Curt.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for condolences and memories of Charlotte to be noted here, and/or contributions in her name may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
