Charles Steven Snider

May 16, 1947 — January 11, 2023

Zionsville, IN

Charles Steven Snider, loving husband, step-father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 11, 2023, his family at his side.  He married his loving wife, Bonnie, on June 2, 1990, raised his stepdaughters Elaine and Angela as his own, and provided generously for his family.

Steve, the son of Charles L. Snider and Barbara M. Snider, was born on May 16, 1947 in Prairieton, Indiana, just south of Terre Haute, Indiana, where he grew up. He graduated from Wiley High School, and received his Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate – Major in Educational Administration – from Indiana State University.  He went on to be a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and finally Superintendent of Schools – a profession he held for 25 years.  He loved kids and worked for the betterment of education most of his life, retiring in 2006.  He was a member of many community organizations, and wrote numerous publications.

Steve took pride in dressing well (evident in his 3-piece suits at work and his collection of Tommy Bahama shirts in retirement). He also enjoyed having nice things and had several collections, including fountain pens, watches, antiques and art.

People gravitated toward Steve because of his ease of conversation and great story-telling ability. He was a patient listener and fantastic problem solver.  He seemed to know something about everything.

Steve was an avid reader and enjoyed The Washington Post, New York Times, New Yorker, LA Times, Newsweek, and many more. Being his father’s son, he kept abreast of what was happening in the Sports and Entertainment Worlds. His most recent sports interests included golf and the New York Yankees, and he always loved a good Super Bowl.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Snider; mother, Barbara M. Snider; brother, Stanley; father-in-law, Donald L. Keehn; and mother-in-law, Irma Keehn; brother-in-law Mike Keehn; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; stepdaughter Elaine and husband Michael; stepdaughter Angela and husband Jeff; granddaughters Allie and Lilly; sister-in-law Judy Bunge; brother-in-law Brian Bunge; niece, nephew, and cousins.

A private celebration of life will be held at Flanner-Buchanan in Zionsville.  In lieu of flowers, donations to education would be appreciated.
