Charles Robert McKinsey, 94, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on December 9, 2020. He was born on May 7, 1926 in Winamac, Indiana to John and Lessie (Oglesby) McKinsey.
As a child Charles traveled the country, living in many states as his father was an AT&T Construction Foreman, laying long distance cable. He enjoyed the many experiences associated with his travels.
He graduated from Winamac High School in 1944. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the Naval Officers V-12 Training Program at Purdue University. He graduated Purdue with a B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering and a Bachelor of Naval Science and Tactics in 1949. He was discharged from the Naval Reserve as a LTJG in 1959. He also received a Master’s Degree in Chemistry in 1959 from Niagara University, NY.
He married Leanor Rita Burns on September 22, 1951 who preceded him in death after 58 years of marriage.
Charles is survived by his son, Robert (Jo) McKinsey of Mobile, AL, and daughter, Christine (George) Wilhelm of Carmel IN, along with 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Charles worked for several Divisions of the Union Carbide Corporation. He was hired as a Junior Engineer at Union Carbide Carbon Research Laboratories, Niagara Falls, NY in 1949, and he retired as Manager of Marketing Services, Union Carbide Coatings Service in Indianapolis, IN in 1986.
In his spare time Charles enjoyed golf, barbershop singing (SPEBSQSA), traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
