Charles "Mike" Linstrum

July 19, 1952 — January 7, 2023

Indianapolis, IN

Charles “Mike” Linstrum, 70, passed away on January 7, 2023. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on July 19, 1952, to Charles and Thelma Linstrum. Mike was wild and free, fearless in all he did. He had a heart as big as the outdoors and never turned away a person in need. He was resourceful, believing that broken things could always be fixed. Mike took great pride in his children and grandchildren, considering them his greatest life accomplishment. As a father, he was quick to encourage endeavors, lend an ear, give advice, or tell a story. He was a great coach of living life. Mike enjoyed being in nature, watching old western movies, tinkering with cars, hunting, fishing, photography, drinking beer, and creating beautiful gardens. His love for rock and roll music was unwavering. He had a passion for team sports, including the Cubs, Bears, Colts, Pacers, and Indianapolis Indians. When his children were young, he enjoyed coaching youth baseball and softball at Warren Little League.

Mike attended Warren Central High School, Class of 1970. He was a member of the Union of Painters and Allied Trades District 91. As a union glass glazier, he risked his life daily to create spectacular structures such as the Indiana State Museum, Mall of America, Monument Circle Observation Tower, and AUL (OneAmerica) Tower.

His legacy will carry on through his loved ones. Mike is survived by his four children: Lisa Dawn Linstrum Mays, Justin Michael Linstrum, Laura Beth Linstrum and Charles Phillip Linstrum (Michelle), sister Linda Sturgeon (Phil), niece Taryn Batton, nephew Eric Harris (Danielle), cousins Steven Higgs and Robin Reilly (Gordon), 12 grandchildren, and all his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Charles Henry Linstrum and Thelma Scott Linstrum. He touched the lives of so many people. The family’s heartfelt thanks go out to Indianapolis and Warren Township first responders, Eskenazi Burn Unit staff, and all those who came to his aid.
