Charlie was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Bettie, children Charlie (Debbie), Kathy (Jim), and Russell (Josephine), grandchildren Kelly, Heather, Liz (Ryan), Jim & Isabeau, brother Jerry and many nieces and nephews.
Charlie was the son of Charles Edgar Pogue & Stella Maude Pogue, born in the year of the Great Depression in West Frankfort, IL, and grew up in Thompsonville, IL. He is survived by younger brother Jerry, preceded in death by brothers Edmond & Clifford Williams & sister Modene Pogue Hutchcraft. His sister, Modene, introduced him to her friend Bettie and they were married in February 1953. They produced three fine children, who went on to produce five wonderful grandchildren, Kelly, Heather, Liz (Ryan), Jim & Isabeau. Charlie & Bettie's 64 year marriage was an example to everyone of partnership and loving devotion.
Charlie loved playing basketball for the Thompsonville Tigers wearing "99", which later became a nickname some family members gave him. After graduating from Thompsonville High School in 1947, Charlie joined the Air Force and was a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War, spending time in Guam & Panama till his honorable discharge in 1953. He attended DePaul University while working at Oliver Tractor as an accountant. In 1964, he moved the family to their brand new house in Woodridge, IL. He sold real estate until he became a State Farm Insurance agent with his office in Darien, IL for most of that time. Charlie earned his CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) insurance degree, and received many sales awards from State Farm. He retired from State Farm in 1995 then moved to Fishers, IN in 2000. Later in life, Charlie loved to run and was in several marathons, winning many. He and Bettie went to the gym together several times a week – together as always. Charlie was an active member of many organizations, including Masons, Knights Templar, Shriners, Rotary and Toastmasters. Charlie loved to play his guitar, banjo & ukulele and passed that love of music to his kids and grandkids.
Most of all, he really loved his family.
