Charles L. Hertel

80, of Indianapolis, passed away on August 8, 2017. He was born in Columbus, Indiana. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and Butler University. He had served in the Army from 1961 to 1967.
He had worked for State Farm Insurance for 36 years. He was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church where he served as treasurer, trustee and deacon. He was active in Republican politics for 35 years. Served as Washington Township GOP chairman, Ward Chairman and Precinct Committeeman. He was past president of Washington Township Fire Merit Board. He was a member of Pentalpha Masonic Lodge 564, Scottish Rite and the Murat Shrine. He was also active in numerous business and civic organizations.
On June 26, 1959 he married Eleanor Lunte Hertel, whom survives. Other survivors include his son, James B. Hertel; brother-in-law, Maurice J. Lunte and many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 3 p.m. with calling from 1 pm to service time at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple. Memorial contributions may be made to Butler University or the American Cancer Society.
