Charles F. McDaniel, better known as Chuckie, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 14, 2021 at his home in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was the second child of the late Charles and Rose McDaniel. Charles accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at the Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, Toledo, Ohio.
He attended Toledo Public Schools and graduated from DeVilbiss High School. He was the senior class president, class of 1970. At DeVilbiss, Charles played basketball, baseball, where his bat was retired and was a drummer in the marching band. Charles was a drummer in high school, college, churches and professionally with Charles W. McDaniel and the Royal Swanks with his father and uncle. He was also the drummer at Friendship Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Charles attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana where he graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Upon graduation, Charles worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a Revenue Agent until transferring to the Department of Interior OSM (Office of Surface Mining) in 1979, as a Grants Financial Specialist for 28 years before retiring in January 2008. Charles retired from the federal government with over 33 years of service.
Charles also started his own tax preparation business which he operated for over 30 years working with over 100 clients until his health failed in 2019. In 1995, OSM transferred him to Alton, Illinois where he commuted back to Indianapolis on the weekends to be with his family and to work his tax business. He commuted for 13 years. Through his tax preparation business, he developed long lasting friendships and focused on giving back to the Indianapolis community like working with JA (Junior Achievement) for many years.
Charles met Diane Shines at Indiana State University and they were married on November 28, 1974. To that union was born two sons, Cameron and Corey. Indiana State was also where he met lifelong college friends, Wyman Brown, Ed Hill, Rueben Washington, Gaynell T. Catherine and Gregory Dean.
Charles loved sports of any kind, especially water balloon fights at the family reunions. He was treasurer of the McDaniel family reunion for over 40 years until his health failed. At Cameron and Corey’s football games, his voice of love and support could be heard over the thousands in attendance. His unconditional love and support for his sons had no boundaries.
He later married Deidre Smith on May 31, 2008 and they enjoyed travelling both domestically and internationally. Charles was a devoted family man. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts. He leaves to cherish precious memories, wife Deidre, sons Cameron, Corey, and David; daughter Devyn; grandchildren Christian, Kamryn, and Caelyn; sister Deborah Roberts; brothers Reginael (Diann), Rev. Dr. Willie Perryman, Jr. (Monica); niece Jelise (Eric); nephew Jeremy (Cristy); hosts of cousins and many, many friends.
