Charlie Wright
Charles Edwin Wright, beloved husband of Judith Holden Wright (Judy – deceased), father of C. John and Joanne (Reierson), grandfather of Erin, Margaret, and Claire Wright and Nils and Risor Reierson, passed away watching his beloved Butler Bulldogs on March 18, 2017.
Charlie grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, the youngest child of Charles E. and Mary Margaret Miller Wright. Upon graduation from Broad Ripple High School in 1958, he attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he played on the basketball team and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He graduated in 1962. He met Judy in the fall of 1963 when he was home on leave from the US Air Force, and wed on June 26, 1965.
They lived their entire adult lives in the Indianapolis area and current home for nearly 43 years. Charlie was a member of Castleton United Methodist Church, Rotary, and the Masonic Lodge. Charlie’s work career was split being in the family fuel oil delivery business, Wright Coal & Oil Company, and the real estate industry, F.C. Tucker Co. Charlie was a baseball and softball team manager, basketball coach and a board member of the J. Everett Light Career Center. He attended an annual fishing trip with friends and was an avid golfer as a member of the Stony Creek Golf Club.
Charlie is survived by his sister Mary Elizabeth Wright Salmon of Indianapolis and preceded in death by his parents (Mary Margaret and Charles) and sisters (Ruth and Clare Mae).
Charlie is best remembered for easily meeting someone, making a connection and being friends by the end of the conversation. He constantly welcomed family, friends and neighbors to join him around the chimney for a fire, cocktails and company. Charlie and Judy traveled often to visit their children and grandchildren, no matter where in the world they were living, and Charlie continued that tradition after Judy’s passing. Charlie is one of the few that can boast of having visited every state in the U.S.A.
His passing leaves a void in our hearts, but his memory will continue to enrich us every day. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Charlie’s memory to Castleton United Methodist Church (http://www.castletonumc.org/donate.html), the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www2.jdrf.org/goto/charliewrightmemorial), or your favorite charity.
