Charles E. Wratten,

93, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 3, 2017. Charles was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 8, 1923 to the Late George R. and Edith (White) Wratten. Charles was twelve when his mother Edith passed, and his father later married his step-mother, Thelma, who was known to everyone as “Happy.” Charles and his brother grew up in Indianapolis, with Charles leaving after high school to join the U.S. Navy. He served his country proudly during WWII on ships carrying supplies to American soldiers. When he returned from the service, he met the love of his life, Nannie, through his church. The two were married and had a son, Garry, and later adopted a daughter, Dawn. Charles and his wife loved spreading their love of God through song; performing at venues ranging from nursing homes to women’s prisons. He also enjoyed playing the guitar at family events and holidays. Charles was a member of Calvary Tabernacle Church, and was a devoted Christian his whole life.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul Wratten; and his grandson, Leif Wratten. He is survived by his children: Garry (Jan) and Dawn; his grandchildren: Adam, Kate, Veronica (Andy), Claire, Rebecca, Levi, Stephen (Kim), and Addam; and his great-grandchildren, Walter and Calvin. A visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm Monday, May 8, 2017 at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis IN; with a Memorial Service with Military Honors to follow at the funeral home at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Wheeler Mission, 245 N.
