Charles E. Spargur Jr.

Charles Erwin Spargur, Jr. was born on August 21, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Ruth and Charles E. Spargur, Sr. He graduated from Shortridge High School and attended Butler University.

He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps and was shot down on his 33^rd mission near Vienna and held as a POW at Stalag 7A near Moosburg, Germany. He was the recipient of the Air Medal with 2 clusters and 7 battle stars. He was recalled to active duty in the Korean War.

He was a member and past master of West Newton Masonic Lodge and past president of the Murat Chanters. He was also a member of American Legion Post #500, the Murat Shrine, the Scottish Rite, Disabled American Veterans, American Ex-Prisoners of War, and John Knox Presbyterian Church.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Spargur Sr.; his sisters, Marjorie Owens and Virginia Heartwell, and his brother, Richard.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lora, daughter, Ramona Watts, and granddaughter, Megan Watts, his 4-legged friends, Tinker Bell and Sasha, and a host of relatives and friends.

He will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who loved nature, music, history, reading, his pets, and his family.

Calling will be held on Thursday, March 22 at Flanner Buchanan-Speedway from 4-8pm with a Masonic service at 7pm, followed by the Murat Chanters at approximately 7:15pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 23 in the funeral center at 11am. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
