Chuck Harrison, age 89, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2022, surrounded by many family members. He is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, and survived by his children, Michelle Johnson, Dana Higgins, Brent (Teresa) Harrison, Datha (Lisa Butler) Harrison, Emily (Steve) Holt, Judy (Jim) Moles, and Brian (Michelle) Harrison. Also survived by 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Chuck was born and raised in The Valley neighborhood of Indianapolis to Gilbert and Hazel Harrison, where he was the youngest of three siblings. After graduating from Washington High School in 1951, he worked at Allison Transmission before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He was based in Roswell, NM from 1952-56, serving with the 40th Bombardment Squadron of the 8th Air Force. As a tail gunner on a B-36 bomber, he logged over 200 flight hours during the Korean War. After the war, he returned to work as an electrician at Allison Transmission and retired from there in 2001 after nearly 50 years of employment.
Chuck was an active athlete in his younger years, playing baseball, basketball, football and later, softball. He remained an avid sports fan throughout his life, with a particular love of baseball, hockey, and open wheel auto racing. He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren compete as well.
In his later years he loved nothing more than spending time with family and was always up for a party. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by many.
